Komal Bhimani, OD

Dr. Komal Bhimani attended the University of Alabama School of Optometry in Birmingham Alabama where she graduated in August 2015. Dr. Bhimani is seeing patients at both Florence locations.

Education

Dr. Bhimani attended East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina for undergraduate studies. She graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Business Administration. Dr. Bhimani then began Optometry School at University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, where she graduated with her doctorate in 2019.

Residency

Ocular Disease and Refractive Surgery

During her residency, Dr. Bhimani provided care for patients with cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, corneal disorders, neuro-ocular disorders, pediatric disorders, oculo-plastics disorders and other various other conditions. She managed pre and post-operative care for patients with cataract, glaucoma, oculo-plastics, and retina surgeries

Determined intraocular lens power (through axial length and keratometry measurement) for patients in need for cataract extraction.

Dr. Bhimani furthered her education during residency while co-managing patients with various ocular disease and systemic disease with ocular manifestations. She triaged phone calls for emergency patients and treated ocular emergencies during after clinic hours.

As a Resident Dr. Bhimani educated third and fourth year optometry students through clinical teaching. She also presented interesting case reports and journal articles to co-residents and residency director.

Service

Community Eye Care

Dr. Bhimani provided vision screenings at many area schools and day care centers as well as at senior citizen centers and community events throughout the Birmingham Metro Area.

She provides eye care to underserved populations through Black Belt participating in clinical service days to provide comprehensive eye exams and free glasses to rural communities of Alabama.

Dr. Bhimani participated in clinical service days to provide comprehensive eye exams and free glasses to those that are uninsured in the Birmingham area under the Gift of Sight program.

Mission Trip to Haiti

Dr. Bhimani joined her classmates to provide eye care to over 300 patients through the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists.

Personal

Dr. Bhimani enjoys spending time with her family & friends, cooking, working out, and traveling. She has travelled to 10 different countries and is looking forward to exploring more in the near future.
