Every year people around the world get excited to make resolutions, and whether it’s their goal to exercise more often or finally pick up a new hobby, we all have our sights set on something incredible for 2020. But alongside your other new year resolutions, you might want to consider fitting in one more – obtaining 20/20 vision. Whether you can already see clearly now or you’ve been struggling to read things near or far, this is one goal that’s easier to reach than you might think.

Routine Care

No matter what your current vision situation might be – perfect vision, wearing contacts, or using glasses – it’s important to remember that things can always change. Just like any other element of one’s health, our eyes can experience a wide range of conditions, diseases, or minor shifts that might need professional attention. It’s recommended that you visit your eye care provider at least once per year for a thorough examination, and more often if you have a specific condition that requires frequent monitoring.

Healthy Lifestyles 101

Our entire body can benefit from a healthy way of living, and that includes our eyes. Make sure to eat a balanced diet that’s full of nutrient-rich foods, as a range of antioxidants and vitamins have a direct impact on eye health. Exercising can assist in maintaining a healthy weight and lowers the risk of high blood pressure, a leading cause of many visual diseases. Getting enough sleep is also essential, as the feeling of tired and heavy eyes can lead to redness and discomfort. Aim for at least seven hours per night if you’re able.

Taking A Break

Even if you already have 20/20 vision, you could still experience eye issues that interrupt your day to day life. With the increased use of digital devices and the eye fatigue that comes along with it, more and more people find that they’re ending the day with headaches, itchy eyes, pain in their neck, and more. Experts recommend the 20/20/20 rule when on the computer for long periods of time – every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.

Eye Surgery

If your vision just doesn’t get better no matter what you do, it may be time to contact your ophthalmologist. You may be a candidate for LASIK, Cataract, or Near Vision Correction Surgery. A great first step would be taking one of our self-evaluation tests. A more accurate diagnosis will have to be done in office by one of our doctors. For some individuals, 20/20 vision might not be a true reality due to specific eye conditions or other medical factors, but if you’ve been longing to see better than you currently do, it’s time to commit to your eye health. Make 2020 the year that you implement some changes to your vision care routine and experience seeing the world in a new and improved way!
