The new year is always an exciting time as people are often engaged in holiday parties, time off from work, and the idea of getting another fresh start after the last 365 days. The tradition of making New Year’s resolutions has been around for a long time, and the types of promises we make to ourselves can vary a great deal.

Some of us vow to finally ask for a raise while others commit to a regular exercise schedule. Resolutions relating to our general health and well-being are common, so why not make one of your New Year’s promises around improving upon your vision? It’s a lot easier than you may think, as seeing clearly is a priority that you can’t afford to not invest in.

Clear Without Cataracts

For many patients, seeing their best is a challenge due to cataracts, a natural aging process of the eyes. Our lenses begin to get cloudy over time and this can make optimal vision difficult even with the help of glasses. Surgery is the only way to truly get better vision when you have cataracts, but it can be a stressful topic for some.

This new year, commit to visiting with one of the Board-Certified ophthalmologists at Carolinas Centers or Sight, P.C.  and discussing your cataract surgery options. Many patients find that they are a candidate for the latest in surgery technology that utilizes lasers instead of traditional bladed methods. With a quicker recovery time and the ability to customize your vision more than ever before, laser cataract surgery is an ideal way to start off your new year.  Carolinas Centers for Sight, P.C. is the only practice in South Carolina with the complete suite of Alcon laser cataract equipment.  They also offer Symfony® Extended Depth of Focus cataract lens implants that provide corrected vision at all distances without blurry zones as well as correct astigmatism issues.

Say Goodbye To Glasses

Some may want to take their New Year’s resolution for better vision one step further and opt for vision correction such as LASIK, PRK, or KAMRA® Inlay to ensure they are glasses free for years to come.

If your cornea is not shaped in a way that allows light to properly focus on the retina (called a refractive error), you will have blurry vision. Z-LASIK, or the LASIK alternative called PRK, can be performed to correct the corneal shape, allowing light to properly focus and ultimately providing clear vision.  Z-LASIK is the most advanced technology and is available at only one practice in the Pee Dee – Carolinas Centers for Sight, P.C.

Both Z-LASIK and PRK procedures use excimer lasers to reshape the corneal tissue. These are “cool” lasers that generate ultraviolet range power to remove microscopic layers of tissue – approximately 1/10 the width of a human hair. The laser is programmed to remove precisely the amount of tissue needed to achieve the desired visual result for your unique refractive error: nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism.

Z-LASIK gives you incredible vision without glasses or contacts with recovery times that are super short. More and more people are turning to LASIK as it’s become very affordable with technology that has improved dramatically over the years. If wearing glasses has always been frustrating for you, consider this virtually painless way to get better vision.

The KAMRA® Inlay treatment is an eye procedure that restores near vision and frees you from the constant frustration of reading glasses. The inlay sits in the first few layers of the eye known as the cornea. Smaller and thinner than a contact lens, the KAMRA® Inlay is a mini-ring with a pinhole opening in the center. The inlay uses this pinhole to focus light coming from both near and far into the eye. This restores near vision while maintaining distance vision. There may be times when additional magnification is needed, like reading small print in dim light or viewing near work for an extended period of time.

Most adults require an eye exam at least every year or two to ensure their eyes stay healthy, so what better time to call your ophthalmologist than in the new year. Your eyes are too important to not make them a priority – after all, we only get one set of them!

Even if you aren’t ready for cataract surgery or may have more questions about Z-LASIK or other refractive surgeries, it’s important to schedule time with your doctor regularly. This new year, whether you’re the type to make resolutions or not, schedule an appointment today with Carolinas Centers for Sight, P.C.(843-664-9393) and get focused on getting better vision for 2019!
